Everyone loves nice accessories. Small decorative features are common tools we use in our daily activities.
Pens, coffee mugs, letterheads, paper bags, and much more; are all colored mostly with decorative print designs to add to their aesthetic properties.
Much of this detailing was done by specialists in the past, for example, in a printing house, but now that has changed, thanks to advanced technologies.
The digitization of many gadgets, including printers, has made them accessible and affordable for individuals who have them in their homes. You can now perform some of these tasks at home.
That said, let’s take a look at how to print a design on a paper bag.
It’s a pretty easy job if you have some basic computer skills. Let’s start with the tools and equipment you will need:
- A paper bag
- Computer with at least one graphics software
- Masking tape
- Normal printing paper
How to Print on Paper Bags?
Make the Design
The first step is to make your design on any software with some graphics. Word, Corel draw, or Photoshop… When designing, consider the type of printer you have and whether the cartridge is color or black and white.
A black and white design will have fewer highlights and more outlines, while a colored design will have comparatively more highlights.
Scale the design to fit the area you want to print on your bag. Keep in mind that if the designs and bag sizes are out of proportion, you run the risk of encountering a much larger print than the bags. Also, a very small scale can be much more effective to produce any intended effect.
Plain designs look better and make more sense in paper bags. After all, a paper bag is not a very long-lasting thing. Unless it’s a kept memory sooner or later it will wear out or be damaged.
Therefore, it doesn’t make sense to spend so much time and energy creating a complex design that will cost more in terms of printing. A complex color design will take up most of the cartridge, which means you will need to replace the cartridge sooner.
However, if you were not born to design anything, you can find a simple design on the internet and download the image. You can edit the image a bit and scale it to fit your paper bag.
You can also find all the templates online that will make your job even easier.
Prepare Your Paper Bag for Printing
You can make your paper bag for an experiment or domestic use. There are simple instructions on how to do it on the Internet. However, you can also buy one.
While doing this, make sure it is not bigger than your printer, otherwise, you will have problems.
Paper bag is not traditional computer paper that you print using your printer. Several preparatory steps must be taken to ensure a smooth process.
So take your paper bag and lay it flat on the computer paper. Use masking tape to attach it to the computer paper with masking tape. When removing the tape, be sure to tape it lightly so as not to damage the paper bag.
Have the print side face up and away from the computer paper. This taping procedure ensures that the paper bag does not get stuck in the printer. The original shape of the bag was not designed for printing and there is a danger of the edges being lifted and being caught between the moving parts of the computer.
Another way to do this without taping the paper bag onto computer paper is to use the same masking tape to hold both ends of the paper bag together. The effect is the same.
It is important to keep the edges of the bag somehow; If any part of it gets caught in the printer, it may damage some parts, which incurs costs.
If the paper bag has handles, it is recommended to gently remove them and reinsert them after printing.
Most handles are not straight; they would normally be round. Therefore, they are even more likely to get stuck in the printer and cause further damage.
In rare cases, a flat-handled paper bag would be easier to work with by taping the handles, just like the edges.
Do not use too much tape in this process as it will increase the size of the box you will place in your printer. You don’t want your bag to be rejected by the printer.
Load Paper Bag
Load the paper bag and print the picture you designed.
Make sure the bottom band side goes in first so that the image looks right on the paper bag. The reverse gives you an upside-down image.
Once done, carefully remove the masking tape and enjoy viewing the printed image.
Considerations When Printing Paper Bags
An opaque bag will provide the best picture. A more translucent bag from which partial light comes in will distract you and make your print not visible.
Preferably use water and fade-resistant paints. A paper bag is something you will carry with you and be exposed to a lot of weather. Therefore, printing must be able to withstand some of these conditions.
Change the printer’s setting to ‘heavy’ paper. The printer has sensory features that combine certain features to give the best print.
The paper bag is a higher gauge than regular computer paper, and this is what the printer is set to accommodate.
Printing under this setting will most likely give you a design with one or the other flaw, but some may not be noticeable to the naked eye.
The better the printer, the better the print quality. Depending on the function of the printed paper bag, you may need a variety of print quality, which will be determined by the type of printer you have.
Some inexpensive printers designed for basic office functions may not have the best quality when it comes to color items.
You can print multiple images by fitting several images in the same workspace. Again, make sure the images fit in the same area as the actual print will appear on the paper bag.
Do not print too many copies at once on a small-capacity printer; you burn the printer.
Print several copies and wait for the printer to cool completely before printing another set. However, if your printer can handle several prints at the same time, it’s fine.
You can customize and save the settings used to print the paper bag, so if you want to print on a similar size paper bag, you just have to get the same. You can also save a few settings for different sizes.
Various simple designs can be put into paper bags using this relatively easy technique that requires no special skills.
You can decorate the paper bags for your own use or print a small order for a small event such as a wedding or birthday party.
